Raines requests recount of Box 2

A recount of ballots voted last week in Box 2 of Precinct No. 2 will be held this Thursday, at 1 p.m., in the Elections Room of Dawson County Courthouse. County Commissioner Joe Raines, who apparently lost his re-election bid to former commissioner Tony Hernandez by just a few votes in the Nov. 6 General Election, filed a petition and paid the required fee on Tuesday to request the recount, County Clerk Darla Sheppard said on Wednesday morning. Sheppard said the paperwork fi led by Raines was reviewed and accepted by the judge and the recount was ordered.

Raines only requested a recount of Box 2 at Northridge United Methodist Church, which had some hand-counted paper ballots, Sheppard said. He did not ask for a recount of Box 17 in O’Donnell or early voting ballots.
