Woman in critical condition; her shooter is behind bars
A woman remains in critical condition in a Lubbock hospital and the male relative accused of shooting her is behind bars.
Lamesa Police Department (LPD) officers were dispatched to a residence at 1208 N. Ave. K at around 3:51 p.m., Monday to the report of a shooting.
They discovered 37-year-old Lisa Delgado with a gunshot wound to the head.
She was transported to Medical Arts Hospital by a private vehicle. She was later transported to University Medical Center in Lubbock by AeroCare helicopter.
The suspected shooter, identified as Ricky Lee Delgado, 36, barricaded himself inside the residence.
The two relatives were involved in an argument prior to the shooting. It is unknown on what triggered the incident.
“I know they were arguing, but I don’t know what exactly they were arguing about,” said LPD Chief Josh Peterson.
There were no other people in the home.
LPD patrol officers and LPD SWAT officers established a perimeter around the home. They attempted to speak with Delgado.
Delgado surrendered almost an hour after police first arrived. He gave himself up peacefully without incident at 4:50 p.m. He was placed under arrest and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. He was booked in the county jail.
“When he gave up, he was very compliant, but he did not make any statements or anything,” Peterson said. “He didn’t talk to us. He really didn’t talk to us at all.”
After making the arrest, police conducted a search of the home. They found the small caliber revolver suspected to have been used in the shooting.
Peterson did not know who drove Lisa Delgado to the hospital.
“We started getting calls, but by the time we got to the scene, she was already gone. I’m not sure who took her,” Peterson said.
LPD officers were assisted by the Texas Department of Public Safety troopers in securing the scene, along with the Dawson County Sheriff’s Office deputies for maintaining the perimeter during the incident.
“The joint effort helped bring this situation to a peaceful ending,” Peterson said.
