Lamesa firefighters had a busy day Monday, extinguishing a fire in a vacant mobile home during the morning and then spending hours from the early afternoon into the evening at a cotton gin just south of town.Thousands of dollars worth of cotton seed was involved in the fire at United Gin, according to Lamesa Fire Chief Larry Duyck.Firefighters were called to the gin, located about five miles south of Lamesa on Hwy. 87, about 1:30 or 2 p.m.Fire was eventually discovered in a large pile of cotton seed inside an metal A-frame seed house at the gin.“When we first got ...
