Medical Arts Hospital registered nurse and emergency room manager Xandi Perez releases blue balloons from the hospital’s helipad Tuesday afternoon. The balloon release was in recognition of April being National Child Abuse Prevention Month. Members of the Child Welfare Board, Rainbow Room, Child Protective Services, Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA), hospital board members, hospital staff and local law enforcement personnel attended the third annual Child Abuse Awareness Event. Last year there were 68,517 children suffering abuse or neglect. Thirty-eight of those victims were reported in Dawson County. LPR photo
