ANDREWS – The spring fire season doesn’t begin until the end of next month, but the potential exists for a severe season like 2011, according to Andrews County Emergency Management Coordinator Mike Cook.
ANDREWS – Comparatively speaking, the county’s firstquarter payment from Waste Control Specialists (WCS) was on the low end.
Klondike FFA member Kylar Pepper and Lamesa FFA member Mitchell Carpenter were each presented with a $1,500 scholarship on Friday during the annual Dawson County Junior Livestock Show. Pepper received a scholarship established last year in memory of Gaston and Iva Martin and their descendants. Carpenter was awarded a scholarship sponsored by a local buyers club named The Honey Bees. Several governmental entities around the area enjoyed bigger paychecks from the Texas Comptroller’s office this past week, Dawson County and the City of Lamesa were not among them.
Come rain, shine or even snow, Lamesa’s students will be attending classes Monday.
Big second and fourth quarters Friday evening helped the Golden Tornado basketball girls make it five straight in the win column with a 35-20 road victory at Friona.
The Sands Mustangs and Borden County Coyotes split their big District 8-1A varsity basketball doubleheader Friday night at Ackerly.
The Golden Tornado basketball boys got their first district win since 2018 Friday night at Friona as they rolled to a 76-42 District 3-3A victory over the Chieftains.
The Klondike Cougars’ boys basketball squad started their march back to the Class 1A hoop playoffs after knocking off the Grady Wildcats, 57-41, Friday night at Cougar Gym in their District 8-1A hoop opener.
Local golfer Mike Tyler helped bring in the New Year by living out a golfer’s fantasy.
