Observations about various places in Texas to go visit
I recently took a trip down to Corpus Christi for the State Girls’ Powerlifting tournament. I wasn’t the only one from Lamesa. It was good to see that our little team travels well. However, there are certain things I noticed in the places that I visited.
Tax time can be taxing time
It was time to do taxes. What a great day it was! Everyone loves taxes, especially when they have to pay in, which I did, this year. (Did I mention it was a great day?)
Give yourself room to live; buckle up and slow down!
Now more than ever driving is one of the most dangerous things that you do every day. Vehicle crashes and fatalities on our Texas roads and across the nation have gone way up! According to the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) there were more than 4,480 people killed on Texas roads in 2021, making it the second deadliest year since TxDOT began tracking fatalities in 1940. Nationwide, an estimated 20,160 people died in motor vehicle crashes in the first half of 2021, up 18.4% over 2020. In Texas, traffic fatalities were up 15 percent from 2020-2021.
Wildfire risk continuing
The risk of more wildfires continues this week with much of the state under drought conditions.
Live goes on
Once upon a time, folks caused others to smile by telling – and re-telling – stories to each other. Some have been funnier than others, and some people have told said stories better than others.
They killed the son of God to bury the truth about Him
When Jesus was arrested on charges of blasphemy and ushered in before the powerful Sanhedrin, He was asked this question by the high priest, “Are you the Christ, the Son of the Blessed?” (Mark 14:61) Was the priest really interested in the truth or just trying to cover it up? Here is Jesus’ answer, “I am, and you will see the Son of Man seated at the right hand of Power, and coming with the clouds of heaven.” This infuriate the high priest, “. . . he tore his garments and said, ‘What further witnesses do we need? You have heard his blasphemy. What is your decision?’ And they all condemned him as deserving death. And some began to spit on him and to cover his face and to strike him, saying to him ‘Prophesy!’ And the guards received him with blows.” (Mk. 14:63-65) Jesus gave them the truth and what did they do? They killed Him. The Son of God.
