Lamesa’s inaugural Second Saturday Art Walk will be hosted next Saturday, Oct. 13, from 6 to 9 p.m. Artists will have the opportunity to display their work to the community at businesses in Lamesa.
“I’m wanting to highlight the local artists in the area because their isn’t much public art culture here,” event organizer Jonathan Davis said.
Davis said he is planning on holding the art walk the second Saturday of every month at businesses within walking distance of each other.
The businesses hosting next Saturday’s walk will be: Davis Furniture and Hardware, 406 North 2nd Street; Triple Eagle Gallery, 401 North 1st Street; Faros Coffee, 316 North Austin Avenue; and Farm to Market, 124 Austin Avenue.
Businesses began volunteering after word of the event was spread through word of mouth, Davis said.
Anyone interested in seeing art or displaying their own art is welcome at the event, Davis said. Some of the art that will be shown will be for sale.
“I’ve had a few artists sign up. A lot of people seem to be really excited about it. I would tell artists to bring whatever they have: good, bad, ugly,” Davis said.
Davis said the art walk will be a very informal event where patrons and artists may come and go as they please. He said he wants to spread the word about local art and highlight what artists in the community can do.
Artists interested in displaying their art and businesses willing to host artists may contact Davis at (806) 201-0478. They also are welcome to contact one of the hosts.
