The Steve and Joy Payson family in Lamesa will welcome two international exchange students into their home this coming August.
The Paysons regularly host foreign exchange students who attend Lamesa High School. The family has hosted a total of around 30 students in the past, Steve said.
Students that the Paysons will host this year are two girls, one from Ukraine and one from the Philippines. The family recently sent home a student from France and a student from Italy who had stayed with them.
Steve Payson said the girls will live in Lamesa for 11 months, if everything goes smoothly.
“With teenagers, not everything always goes smoothly,” Steve said.
Around 19 students have lived with the Paysons throughout the entire 11 month period of their stay, but some have left due to factors like personality differences, Steve said. The Paysons also have picked up students who have moved from other homes participating in the international exchange programs.
The Paysons have been hosting international exchange students since 2003, Steve said. However, the family has taken breaks in the past, such as when Joy worked at North Elementary School or when their son was a senior in high school.
