An Odessa woman was airlifted from the scene after reportedly suffering a serious gash to her head and other injuries in a one-vehicle accident this past Wednesday southwest of Lamesa at Patricia.
Elizabeth Alvarado Vasquez, 40, was flown by medical helicopter to University Medical Center in Lubbock, according to Highway Patrol Trooper Joey Sauseda with the Department of Public Safety.
Vasquez had a head injury and was considered in serious condition on Wednesday, Sauseda said, but no update had been received in regard to her condition by Friday afternoon.
Sauseda said the cause of the accident still is under investigation, but the trooper added there is a possibility that alcohol may have been a contributing factor.
The accident, which was reported about 7:35 a.m., sent emergency medical personnel, firefighters and law enforcement officers rushing to the intersection of State Highway 349 and FM 828.
Rescuers found a seriously-injured female inside a 2017 Ford Mustang located on the west side of FM 349 just a few yards south of the intersection.
