Two reported gang members from the Dallas/Fort Worth area  were arrested here on Tuesday and charged with burglary of a building in connection with a break-in at Jones McCall Pharmacy.
Mekel Demon Jackson Jr., 23, and Samuel Derand Jones, 22, both of Fort Worth, each were charged with burglary of a building and evading arrest/detention, Lamesa Chief of Police Dale E. Alwan Sr. told the Press-Reporter.
The police chief said Jackson has a previous conviction for evading arrest/detention.
Both suspects have been booked into Dawson County Jail.
“Lamesa PD confirmed through Dallas PD that both Jones and Jackson were confirmed ‘CRIP’ gang members out of the Dallas/Fort Worth area and both with extensive criminal records,” Chief Alwan said.
The police chief said the Lamesa Police Department is working with several other police departments, including Amarillo, Dumas, Pampa, Seminole and Lovington, N.M., where pharmacy burglaries also occurred and Jackson and Jones are suspected of committing those crimes.
While on a routine patrol of the alleyways near 15th and 16th Streets and North Bryan Avenue about 5:24 a.m. Tuesday, Chief Alwan said, a Lamesa Police officer heard what he believed to be glass breaking.
Upon investigation, the officer determined the sound came from Jones McCall Pharmacy, 1605 North Bryan Avenue, where the business alarm also had been activated.
