The resignation of one board member and the naming of a possible replacement was part of business discussed at Monday evening’s joint regular board meeting of the Lamesa Economic Development Corporation and Lamesa Economic Alliance Project.
Dave Bhakta, with Lamesa’s Best Western Inn and Suites, had submitted his letter of resignation from the LEAP board prior to Monday’s meeting, Nathan Tafoya, executive director of both LEDC and LEAP, said.
Bhakta had served on the LEAP board since December of 2015, following his appointment by the Lamesa City Council to fill a vacancy on that board in November of that year.
Later in Monday’s meeting, the joint boards approved a motion to propose to the Lamesa City Council that Lee Casas with Edward Jones be appointed to serve in the board position previously held by Bhakta.
That motion was subject to confirmation by the boards’ legal counsel.
City Manager Shawna D. Burkhart, who was in attendance at Monday’s LEDC/LEAP meeting, said the appointment of a new member to the LEAP board would be on the agenda for next Tuesday’s meeting of the City Council.
In a related discussion, board members approved a motion to change the day and time of the joint board meetings to the second and fourth Monday of each month, beginning at 12 noon. Those meetings will be held in a different location to be determined on the second Monday and in the Presidents Room of the Lamesa Area Chamber of Commerce on the fourth Monday.
