Flushing Out Fire Hydrants
Several fire hydrants could be seen spewing out water in the south part of the city shortly before noon on Friday. Lamesa Fire Chief Larry Duyck said firefighters had been flushing out the fire hydrants to do a routine pressure test when one fire hydrant broke and could not be shut off. He said that fire hydrant had to be bypassed and no longer will be available for use until it has been replaced. Duyck said the fire hydrants need to be flushed out each year and pressure tested, so firefighters will know if the fire hydrant is good before it is needed in an emergency.
