The Lamesa school board will tackle several agenda items that will apply to the 2017-2018 school year during their meeting this Thursday, beginning at 7 p.m.
The board meeting has been pushed back one hour from its regular starting time of 6 p.m. so that school board candidates Kelli Merritt and Don Bethel may participate in the Candidates Forum, which will be held at the Forrest Park Community Center, at 6 p.m., on Thursday.
One of the items the board will consider at its meeting is the District of Innovation draft. That designation will allow school boards more freedom from state-wide requirements and recommendations, including school beginning and ending dates and hiring experts in their fields to teach trades to students.
“Our committee has finalized  the innovation plan and it will be posted for review on our website (after the meeting) for 30 days,” Lamesa ISD Superintendent Jim Knight said.
The district’s goals for next year will be presented by Knight, who also will present two possible 2017-2018 school calendars.
Teacher recommendations will be presented to the board and those will be discussed during a closed, executive session as part of Thursday’s meeting.
Before approving any contract offers, the board members will reconvene into open session to take votes on personnel issues.
