A construction company from San Angelo has been awarded the bid for installation of the 2016 CDBG (Community Development Block Grant) water line project.
That project will include 2,830 linear feet of new water improvements along North 3rd Street from North Hartford Avenue to Boston Avenue, along North 1st Street from a point between Canyon Avenue and Boston Avenue to Detroit Avenue, and along Detroit Avenue from a point between Detroit Avenue and Elgin Avenue.
Darnell Construction LLC in San Angelo submitted the low bid – $206,909 – for the water improvements project.
Three other bids, ranging in price from $212,210.55 to $271,765 – were received from Deerwood Construction, Inc. in Lubbock, L. Howard Construction, Inc. in Abernathy and Utility Contractors of America in Lubbock.
Robert H. (Holly) Holder, PE, with Parkhill Smith and Cooper, verified that each of the bids met the minimum qualifications at Tuesday’s City Council meeting.
Holder and Dionicio Garza Jr., utilities director for the city, also took time at Tuesday’s meeting to look over all four bids to ensure they were comparable in regard to the specifications for the project. Holder said he checked with some people who have had experience working with Darnell Construction before recommending that council members approve that bid.
