Discussion of the executive director’s contract took up the majority of this month’s joint board meeting of the Lamesa Economic Development Corporation and Lamesa Economic Alliance Project.
    An initial two-year contract approved by the LEDC/LEAP boards for the hiring of Nathan Tafoya to serve as executive director of those joint organizations back in February of 2015 is coming to an end.
    All discussion of Tafoya’s contract was conducted during a closed, executive session that was called for three purposes: matters related to ongoing and/or proposed economic development and community development incentive projects; real estate acquisition opportunities; and personnel matters.
    That closed session lasted a total of approximately two hours and 45 minutes, but less than 30 minutes into the closed session Tafoya came out of the meeting room after discussion of the first two items apparently had been completed.
    Over the next two hours of that closed session, Tafoya was called back into the meeting room three different times to meet with the board members for differing lengths of time.
    In addition to the board members, City Attorney Russell Casselberry, City Manager Shawna D. Burkhart and Mayor Josh Stevens all remained in the meeting room during the closed session.
