Entries still are being accepted in a number of events planned next weekend for the seventh annual Chicken Fried Steak Festival and sixth annual Crossroads Balloon Rally at Forrest Park in Lamesa.
Festivities here will get underway next Friday, April 28, and continue on Saturday, April 29. All events will conclude on Sunday, April 30.
The Classic Car Show, Chicken Fried Steak Cook-off and Chicken Run (5K run and walk) all still are accepting entries, Terri Stahl, administrative assistant for the City of Lamesa and event organizer, said this week.
The car show will be held from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Saturday inside the LeeRoy Colgan Building (county fair barn). An automotive swap meet that will be held in conjunction with the car show will be set up at the northeast corner of the balloon field.
Trophies and plaques will be awarded in a number of categories for the car show, while the overall winners also will receive cash prizes.
The early entry fee for the car show is $25, Stahl said, while the entry fee on the day of the show will be $30.
Proceeds from the car show will go to Lamesa Learning Coop (LLC) to help home-schooled students with robotics competition, Stahl said.
Cook-off teams will begin preparing their entries at 10 a.m. Saturday at their booths in Forrest Park and will turn in their best entries for judging at 12 noon. Winners of the cook-off will be announced at 3 p.m.
The cook-off contest will have the top three places awarded by event judges, but anyone who attends the festival will be able to vote for the winner of the People’s Choice Award.
Trophies and cash prizes will be awarded for first through third places, while the People’s Choice Winner will get a cash prize.
Entry fees for the cook-off are $45 per team and those fees are non-refundable.
