The re-appointments of three board members whose terms all expired at the end of December were approved by a 5-2 vote of the Lamesa City Council at a special called meeting held this past Tuesday evening.
Scott Leonard, Bob Henderson and Jason Anzaldua all were re-appointed to new two-year terms, ending in December of 2019, on the joint boards of the Lamesa Economic Development Corporation and Lamesa Economic Alliance Project.
In a separate motion, Council member Bobby G. Gonzales was appointed to a two-year term on the LEAP board to fill a vacancy that was created last October with the resignation of former board member Dave Bhakta.
The routine re-appointments of Leonard, Henderson and Anzaldua – who have served on both boards since being appointed by the City Council in September of 2014 – was on the consent agenda of the Dec. 19 council meeting, but was not approved after Council member Fred Vera voiced his desire to nominate someone else for those positions.
Vera made a motion to approve all of the other re-appointments to the boards and committees listed on that lengthy consent agenda, except those for the LEDC and LEAP boards.
The motion made by Vera at the Dec. 19 council meeting was approved in a 4-3 split vote of the council with Vera, Gonzales, Marie Briseno and Rick Moreno all voting in favor, while Mayor Josh Stevens, Brant Stewart and Doug Morris voted against the motion.
